Concern over the
safety of our independent but aging parents is something many of us have
faced or will face. John J. an engineer in Chicago, Illinois is
experiencing such concerns now. We are pleased to report that First
View Security's Digital Door Viewer played a role in easing one of
John's concerns while enhancing the safety and quality of life of his
parents.
As happens to us all,
John’s parents were experiencing declining hearing and eyesight.
Answering a knock on their door or ring of the bell created safety
concerns because their apartment door was equipped with an old-fashioned
peephole that provided a very poor view. As John explains it, the fact
that his parents lived in an isolated unit at the end of a rather dimly
lit hall made identifying callers even more difficult.
Recently, John's
parents experienced an alarming event that brought this very issue to
John's attention. It seems that one evening a visitor to the
neighborhood, in an intoxicated state, mistakenly knocked on John’s
parents' door. Having difficulty seeing through the tiny peephole, his
mother opened the door. John's frightened parents then had to deal with
a drunken and confused stranger in their home. This confrontation ended
happily, but John knew something had to be done to prevent future
incidents.
Not long after this
episode John's mother happened to read an article in the Chicago Tribune
that featured the Digital Door Viewer (DDV) and described its clear
view. She told John about the Door Viewer and he decided to get one for
his parents.
First, John was
pleasantly surprised at the simple and quick installation. He was able
to install the DDV into the same hole as the old peephole with a few
common tools in just about ten minutes. Second, John and his parents
were very pleased at the large, bright clear image that appeared on the
DDV’s LCD screen even with the low hallway lighting outside their
apartment door. The large screen of the Digital Door Viewer delivers an
easy to see picture, even for those with less than perfect eyesight like
John's mom. What's more, the high quality digital camera brightens and

John’s parents are
very satisfied with their new Digital Door Viewer. They can now see
much more clearly and are able to recognize who is at the door before
they decide to open it. ”With the DDV, Mom and Dad feel more secure and
I no longer have to worry about them not being able to see who is at the
door before opening it. Now, if they don't want to answer they don't
have to,” said John, “because the DDV is digital and not a glass two way
peephole, those on the outside can't tell if someone is looking out or
not."
Thanks to the DDV
there is a clear improvement in the comfort and peace of mind for John’s
parents and for the son who cares about them. In John’s words, "the DDV
turned out to be better than we thought it would be. It is
extraordinary."
